Left overs

(download)

One of the few Banky's left in Melbourne was inadvertently destroyed yesterday by workman installing pipes.

I walked passed the parachuting rat regularly and assumed it was a homage to the artist and I did witness the destruction.

As a sometime street artist I know that you need to consider work placed in the street as ephemeral. It could be removed or painted over at any time. Although sad it is the nature of street art. I will miss the cheeky rat however Melbourne is so lucky that it is a Mecca for amazing street artist and the lane ways of Melbourne a treasure trove.

Barek

P686

Recently I was lucky to receive a wonderful package in the mail. In return for one of my amigurumi Barek sent me a collection of stickers (slaps). They are fabulous. Swaps are common in the street art community. I hope to arrange more.

On the cover of a book - yes me!

When I was in NZ I discovered that a painting I sat for in 1991 with my daughter Billie is on the cover of a book of poetry (awesome). One of my nephews also discovered this photo of me with my eldest daughter Lucy. I love it to pieces. The painting is by my mother-in-law Annie Baird

who passed away in 1999. She was a truly amazing woman and her paintings are an absolute joy.

Dunedin library tours

(download)

I visited Dunedin Public Library today. It was the first free public library in NZ established in 1908. It was housed in the Carnegie building for a very long time and then in the 1981 it moved to it's new location.

Mary Ronnie who wrote a history of the library called "Freedom to Read" was our tour guide of the Carnegie building. A wonderful story-teller with a lilting Scottish accent she was the perfect guide.

The Library is filled with wonderful art works.

New artwork in situ

I have framed the art works produced by @Zaana and @sallysetsforth. They were exchanged for a crochet lesson and handwarmers for Zaana and a creepy-but-cute knight for Sally. Zaana created the wonderful hand print of the Sun Theatre in Yarraville based on a photo I sent her and Sally made the wonderful cross-stitch based on one of my tattoos. Not only ace librarians but talented crafters/artists as well.

Creative bartering is a win-win for participants. The art works look amazing in their new home. I will do another post about the concept this week featurign Ruth's (@restructuregirl) bowls.
