Today I met up with Tony, Tania and Ruth for sponge cake and a creative barter. The cake was divine. Unfortunately Anne couldn't make it.

Exchanges made:

Ruth (bowl) and Tony (red scarf)
Tania (handmade cards) and Kim (set of angry birds)

Exchanges to be completed:

Anne (condiments) and Kim (iPhone cozy)
Anne (condiments) and Tania (handmade cards)
Kim (iPhone cozy) and Ruth (bowl with green glaze)

It was a lovely afternoon. Fantastic exchanges were made. Interested in an exchange let me know.

Weekend projects - craft and gardening

This weekend was significant for many in Melbourne. Yesterday two teams battled it out in the AFL Grand Final. For those of you who are not familiar with the code there is plenty available online about AFL. The great controversy of yesterday's match - it was a draw. So the whole thing needs to be replayed again next weekend.

I have lived in Melbourne for 21 years and didn't really start barracking for a team until last year. I am a Western Bulldogs supporter. However yesterday as well as watching part of the match I:

  1. Mowed the lawns
  2. Shopped for a birthday present
  3. Crocheted

This is the result:

  • Purple handwarmers
  • A green monster Iphone cosy

They are for my friend Ruth a fabulous potter. We are doing another creative barter. It's win/win. I get one of her wonderful bowls and she gets more of my crochet.

Hope your all had a wonderful weekend too! Now I am going to start another creative barter for Anne and enjoy this beautiful day.

Creative barter - handwarmers

Photo

I have a few creative barter projects on the go: handwarmers and eyephone cosies.

I have also started my Christmas craft making and have orders for a pony and three dolls. So every spare moment I will be crafting. Making my morning commutes precious crafting time.

I am planning to get back to riding to work next week. Now that we are nearly in double digits in the morning. I like it to be over 10 degrees for outside exercise.

See you on the bike paths.

Creative Barter the concept

Last year I started crocheting in earnest and a number of people expressed interest in my work. I knew that many people who worked in the library/information world were also very creative. So a few of us decided to barter our creative output.

So far we have had two successful exchanges and I have a number of barters underway outside of the group of four represented here. It is a wonderful way to fill your home with art and craft.

If you are interested in the concept and/or artist/crafter who would like to barter for our works you can leave at message at my blog: haikugirloz.com. Each barter is individually negotiated with the creator of the work. I am prolific as crochet is relatively quick to make and I travel 2 hours a day to and from work. However other types of craft can take a lot longer to produce.

Featuring the work of: @zaana (print maker), @sallysetsforth (cross-stitch, feltie), @restructuregirl (pottery)

New artwork in situ

I have framed the art works produced by @Zaana and @sallysetsforth. They were exchanged for a crochet lesson and handwarmers for Zaana and a creepy-but-cute knight for Sally. Zaana created the wonderful hand print of the Sun Theatre in Yarraville based on a photo I sent her and Sally made the wonderful cross-stitch based on one of my tattoos. Not only ace librarians but talented crafters/artists as well.

Creative bartering is a win-win for participants. The art works look amazing in their new home. I will do another post about the concept this week featurign Ruth's (@restructuregirl) bowls.
