I used to dress like Boy George (the early years)

I have a confession there was a period of time where I dressed like Boy George (the early years). Thank god no photos exist of that phase of my life. But in little old NZ we have a vibrant, indie music scene. I am going to spend some time on my next post talking about the Dunedin Sound and Flying Nun. Today two songs:

Spilt Enz - I got you

I remember seeing Spilt Enz on Radio with Pictures and being blown away. I couldn't believe they were a NZ band they were equal to anything coming out of the UK. Last year I saw Crowded House at the Forum and it was truly wonderful. I also saw Tim Finn performing at the Northcote Social Club another great gig. You have got to love those Finn boys. Recently I saw Neil Finn's son, Liam Finn supporting Wilco and the apple hasn't fallen far from the talent tree.

Dave Dobbyn - You oughta be in love

This is such a beautiful song. I remember going into my local record shop (EMI) where David Pine of the band Sneaky Feelings  worked at the time (I had such a crush on him) and buying this single. I actually had a conversation about how we both liked the song. Oh my god he spoke to me!

I will be skipping the discovering the Beatles, Motown, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, John Lennon and Elton John phase which also happened around this time.
